Dunant: Google’s new submarine cable

Google has launched its new submarine cable system called Dunant, which crosses the Atlantic Ocean between Virginia Beach in the US and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez on the French Atlantic coast. The new cable system offers record speeds of up to 250 terabits per second (Tbps) across the Atlantic and is 6400km long.

This decision came after the record of its revenue, from the last quarter. The largest share of income comes from cloud services offered by the company.

Dunant for Google is a small part of the investment it aims to make in the coming years. The company’s next step is the operation of Equiano in 2021, a new submarine cable that will connect Portugal with South Africa, while in 2022 the operation of Grace Hopper will connect the USA, United Kingdom, and Spain.

The new investments of the colossus mark a new era of better performance, reliability, speed, and security to the cloud services network.
