The European Banking Authority has been breached

The European Banking Authority (EAT) was the victim of a cyber attack with target the Microsoft Exchange Servers, as declared on Sunday, forcing it to temporarily shut down its electronic systems, as a precautionary measure.

The regulator which is based in Paris said:

“As the vulnerability is related to the EBA’s email servers, access to personal data through emails held on that servers may have been obtained by the attacker”

In a statement, EAT states that it has already started the investigations in cooperation with the information and communication technology (ICT) provider as well as with a team of criminologists and other related specialties.

The agency said in a recent statement that it had secured the email infrastructure and found no data extraction, adding that “no indication to think that the breach has gone beyond our email servers.”

The European Banking Authority has announced that will proceed with the implementation of additional security measures as well as that it is closely monitoring the situation after the restoration of the full functionality of the email servers.
